5 Reasons To Work In A Country Pub

When looking for a hospitality job in Australia, you are spoiled for choice. There are pubs, cafes, restaurants and even roadhouses. Which should you apply for? Well, I suggest looking for work in a small town Hotel Pub. Why? There are a number of reasons. I decided to pick FIVE that I think are the most important.

Accommodation.

If you are going to be working in Australia, you will need a place to live. Why pay for rent at a hostel or a flat share when you can get free accommodation. Most of the small town jobs come with accommodation. Especially if you are working at a pub or a restaurant in a hotel. If the accommodation is not free, it is usually very cheaply priced and will cost a lot less than a hostel. Hotel jobs also provide you with meals included with your accommodation. Could you ask for more?

A Great Money Saver.

Working in a country pub is one of the best ways to save money while travelling in Australia. To attract working holiday makers, these places offer a very good hourly rate and provide more than your average number of hours. So you will be able to save a lot of money in a short period of time and be able to resume your travels without having to worry about working. For a little while anyways.

Full Australian Experience.

Do you want to see what life is like in rural Australia? This is your chance.

Because you will (most likely) be in a small town in the middle of nowhere, you will get to experience Australia from a point of view most will not. You will spend countless hours chatting with the locals, who are always glad to tell stories of their rural lives and even show you around. You might even be able to go on fishing and hunting trips if you are lucky.

Social Life.

Since hotels and pubs need more than a staff of one, you will not be the only one who is new in town. Just like in a hostel, you will get to meet other backpackers and make friends with them. This is the part that will help keep you sane while you get used to living in the outback. Also many backpackers that you will meet while working these kind of jobs, will have similar travel plans, so just might be able to find some travel mates for your future adventures.

Sponsorship.

Do you like Australia so much that you want to stay here permanently? This could be your chance.

Depending on the situation at the hotel or pub you are working at and your skill set, you might be able to score yourself a sponsorship. This does not happen everyday, but you might just get lucky if you prove yourself worthy. This is a little easier if you are a Chef/Cook or have previous experience as a manager or supervisor in the hospitality industry.

I hope this helps you find a job in a great little pub and you enjoy your time there as much as I enjoyed mine.
